 Knuth decided that he ought to try to reduce the number of errors in his published work, and being the rational and 

he started offering a reward to anyone who pointed out an error in his work.

He has reportedly dispersed more than $20,000 in total with his average check amount being just over 8 dollars. Sadly, in 2008 he was forced to stop sending real checks due to a 

, a fictional bank on whose books he now records balances for everyone who has claimed a bounty since 2006.

Of course, being a man of his word, Mr. Knuth's imaginary bank's unit of account is actually redeemable at $2.56 per 0x$1.00 (account values recorded as hex values). However, it seems, perhaps unsurprisingly, a vanishingly small number of recipients have taken him up on the offer in recent years.

Anyways, the reason I shared this anecdote is because I plan to do the exact same thing. For all publicly available work on this site I will pay anyone who reports an error to me. However, for my own convenience I'll be placing some constraints on this standing bounty.
